Tashi Pulger, born in 1983, made his studies at Mount Hermon School, Darjeeling, and at Oxford College, Bangalore. Being the youngest descendant of Lawang Pulger, he has addressed himself with determined commitment to the management and further development of his heritage. Encouraged and assisted by his mother Choedon Pulger, he has taken the steps required to preserve the traditional advantage of the Bellevue Hotel in less favorable times of political unrest and harsh competition.
Tashi is, at the same time, firmly rooted in the rich traditions of his ancestors as well as familiar with the cultural skills required in our era of modern technology. His calm gentleness impresses guests and business-partners likewise.
Lawang Pulger (1926 – 2007), founder and former director of the Bellevue Hotel, was a grandson of Raja Tenduk Pulger, an eminent Lepcha noble during the British Raj. Trading between Darjeeling and Lhasa in his younger days he, later, worked for His Holiness the Dalai Lama for many years in what were the hardest times in Tibetan history.
To mention a few of his appointments, he was a co-founder of „Tibetan Freedom Press“ (the first Tibetan newspaper in exile), of the Tibetan Refugee Self Help Centre in Darjeeling and of the Central School for Tibetans (CST) in Darjeeling and in Kalimpong.
For decades, he served as a Tibetan representative at the Buddhagaya Temple Management Committee. He was awarded a Medal for Distinguished Service from the Government of India.
The Staff of the Bellevue Hotel mirrors the different cultures present in Darjeeling, respectfully co-existing, thus making this place’s ambiance so unique. Tibetans, Gorkhas and Indians join hands to provide a pleasant stay at the Bellevue. Well rooted in their respective community, they represent a wealth of informations on any aspect of Darjeeling they gladly share with travellers and guests.
The employees are carefully chosen and, usually loyal to the hotel for many years, make part of the family as well. They regard it as a distinction to serve at the Bellevue Hotel, accordingly doing their utmost to serve our guests to complete satisfaction.
Their efforts exceed the services standard to the hotel business in general.
